Our Story
Hug Bug Playschool opened its doors on 17 January 2018, founded by Anja Fockema, a qualified Montessori Early Childhood Development and Drama teacher, who is also the school's principal. With 15 years of experience working with children, Anja has gained experience in various roles throughout her career, including au pairing, entertaining children at parties, teaching drama and working as a preschool teacher. Today, she proudly owns and runs her beloved Hug Bug Playschool.

My experience has taught me just how important early childhood development is and how essential free play is for children growing up in a world filled with technology. Through free play, children develop physically, emotionally and socially, while also strengthening their fine motor skills.
I will never stop learning from these precious children, nor will I stop researching, observing and continually improving my teaching methods. I am equally passionate about sharing my knowledge and experience with my staff to ensure that we provide the best possible environment for every child.”

At Hug Bug Playschool, our family is built on passion, love, growth, teamwork and attention to detail. We believe in observing, understanding and responding to each of our Hug Buggies' individual needs. This is what Hug Bug Playschool is all about.
We place great emphasis on individual attention, ensuring that every little one receives genuine love, care and support. We take the time to get to know each child's unique personality, moods, likes and dislikes. Every day is different, and some days your little one may need a few extra cuddles, while on other days, they may prefer a little quiet time on their own. Whatever their needs may be, we are here to offer the comfort, care and understanding they deserve.
We go the extra mile for every little one because we truly love what we do. We also encourage confidence and independence by giving children opportunities to explore, learn and try activities on their own, while always providing support and guidance when needed.

The importance of free play
Free play is essential for healthy brain development. It allows children to explore their creativity and imagination while developing coordination, gross and fine motor skills, dexterity, and cognitive and physical abilities.
We believe free play is one of the most valuable tools for nurturing a child's overall development. It gives children the freedom to express their emotions and feelings, discover who they are, build confidence and lay the foundation for a lifelong love of learning.
Outdoor play is an important part of our daily program. It gives our Hug Buggies the opportunity to explore, discover and appreciate the natural world, test their physical limits, develop new skills and, of course, get a little messy!
